Ex Deputy speaker Shawkat Ali passes away
Former Jatiya Sangsad deputy speaker colonel (retd) Shawkat Ali has died on Monday morning. He turned 83 before he died. The news has been confirmed from a press release of the secretariat.
Freedom fighter Shawkat Ali, also the chief advisor of 71 Foundation, breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 9:30 am, a parliament secretariat press release said.
He was admitted to CMH on October 29 with multiple old-age complications, including kidney and heart-related problems.
He was put on life support at the hospital on November 5. Shawkat was one of the accused in the Agartala Conspiracy Case filed during the Ayub regime in pre-independence.
He was elected lawmaker from Shariatpur-2 constituency six times. His body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar for people to pay their last respects at 3:00pm. His namaz-e-janaja will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after maghrib prayer.
Shawkat will be buried at his village home on Tuesday at the Naria BL Model High School premises.
