40th span installed : one more to complete padma bridge !
Only one more span installation to go as The 40th span of the Padma bridge was installed on Friday morning. It was completed successfully around 10:58 pm with no glitches amid favourable weather.
With installation of the 40th span, a total of 6-km (6,000 meters) of the dream Padma Bridge became visible
Padma Bridge’s executive engineer (Main Bridge) Dewan Md Abdul Kader confirmed the matter.
Only one more span is needed to complete the 6.15 kilometre long bridge.
The span (2-E) was installed on pillars 11 and 12 at the Mawa-end in Munshiganj within eight days of installation of the 39th span. The 41st last span (2-F) will put on the pillars 12 and 13 in the mid December.
Earlier on November 27, the 39th span was installed. The span was installed over the pillars 10 and 11 at Munshiganj’s Mawa point making 5,850 meters of the bridge’s main structure visible.
The 6.15-km long double-layer bridge will have a total of 41 spans which would be installed on 42 poles – 21 poles at Mawa site and other 21 poles at Jajira point and all the poles have already become visible.
The multi-purpose Padma Bridge is expected to be opened in 2021.
The construction work of the long-cherished Padma Bridge started in December, 2014 and the first span was installed on September 30, 2017.
The construction of the main bridge is being made by China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor Company, and the river management is being done by Sino Hydro Corporation of China.
When the construction of the bridge is completed, the capital will be directly connected with 21 southern districts through road and railways.
