Awami League and BNP both Shacked the democracy : GM Quader
Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader has said that Awami League and BNP both Shacked the democracy. He also asked whether the BNP held any free and fair election when it was in power.
“BNP is now shouting for free, fair and impartial elections. Did it hold any free and fair election when it was in power,” he questioned.
“The BNP and Awami League secretary general and general secretary often argue on different issues. But, all of them have destroyed the normal taste of democracy by putting shackles on democracy,” he observed.
GM Quader was speaking at a discussion organised at Jatiya Party chairman’s Banani office auditorium on Friday evening on the occasion of 35th founding anniversary of Jatiya Party.
He said, “Both Awami League and BNP enjoyed uncontrollable power over the past 30 years abusing the Article 70 of the constitution. Parliament is supposed to control the government, but the government controls parliament in Bangladesh. There is no way left to control power. Because of it, the leaders and workers of Awami League and BNP have become wealthy persons indulging in unabated corruption.”
Jatiya Party’s senior co-chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud MP said, “It will be difficult to maintain the achievements of the unprecedented development works that have taken place over the last 10 to 12 years unless there is democracy in its real sense in the country. “At present, people face insecurity to their lives. But, this question did not arise at all when Jatiya Party was in power. Now-a-days, it becomes difficult to find suitable candidates for contesting the elections, because everybody knows what will be election results.”
Jatiya Party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu said, “The year 2020 will not only be remembered as ‘Corona Year’, but it will also be remembered as the ‘Year of Rape of Women and Children.’
