21 BNP leaders and activist arrested !
Joypurhat District BNP convener, joint convener and 21 workers were detained by police on Wednesday afternoon on charge of their alleged plan to commit subversive acts. The detained leaders and activists included Joypurhat District BNP convener Shamsul Huq and joint convener Abdul Wahab, Anisur Rahman Talukder, Aminur Rahman Bakul, Sohel Talukder, Tajuddin, Moudud Alam, Chhatra Dal leaders Reza Hasan and Rony.
They were arrested from the District BNP convener’s office situated at main road in Joypurhat town.
Joypurhat Sadar Police Station’s officer-in-charge (OC) AKM Alamgir Jahan claimed that police seized some country-made weapons and sticks during the raid.
Contacted, Joypurhat District BNP joint conveners Golzar Hossain and Masud Rana Prodhan alleged that police arrested 23 district BNP leaders after they came from Joypurhat Sadar, Kalai and Akkelpur upazilas in the districts to join a meeting with District BNP convener over the coming municipal elections.
They also said they neither planned to commit any subversive act nor brought any kind of weapons at the meeting venue.
