Accused in corruption case selected Sylhet district’s best OC

Allegations of corruption have surfaced against Goainghat police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Ahad who had received Sylhet district’s ‘Best OC’ award in November last.

Valiant freedom fighter Insan Ali, an inhabitant of Jaflong Nayabusti under Goainghat upazila, has filed a graft case against nine persons including the OC with Sylhet’s Senior District and Sessions Judge court.

Taking the case into cognizance, the court directed the Sylhet district Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) office to investigate the case and submit a report.

Other accused of the case are Goainghat police station sub-inspector Abdul Mannan, Imran Hossain alias Jamai Sumon of Mamarbazar area under the upazila, Alauddin of Ballaghat, Somed, son of Pankhi Mia, Faizul Islam, Firoze, Rahmat Ali and Sanu Mia of Nayabusti. Allegations of taking financial benefits have been raised against them for giving the scopes of extracting stones in the government and private lands.
