Fakhrul questions quality of elevated expressway work
PBC News: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has raised questioned about the quality of the under construction elevated expressway work.
“A major incident has happened today. I don’t know if anyone of you have noticed it. The girder of the elevated expressway in front of the airport has collapsed. Think about this entire thing. It is being constructed with peoples’ money. It has suddenly collapsed. So, what is the standard of this (work),” asked Fakhrul while addressing at a programme at National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday.
At the programme, Fakhrul unveiled a book titled ‘Kupi Batir Ganatantra’ written by BNP joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal. Four persons including two Chinese workers were injured when a girder of under construction elevated expressway collapsed on the road in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:00am.

Commenting that the government is emptying the country in the name of development, Mirza Fakhrul said, “When I came here, I saw a large inscription on the wall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs saying, ‘Democracy for development is Sheikh Hasina’s motto.’ It can be explained in many ways, I will not say that. We are saying one thing again and again the government is making the country empty by raising the smoke of development with mega projects. Whose money are you taking?”
“I read a news yesterday or day after tomorrow that there will be high-speed train from Dhaka to Chittagong. Two Chinese companies will give the money to complete the project. And to repay the money, I have to pay VAT to buy rice, oil and salt,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
“The development of the whole of Bangladesh is happening like this now. This development means that they are cutting peoples’ pockets to make their pockets heavier,” he added.
