‘AL leaders’ absence to pay last respect to Moudud unfortunate’
PBC News: Prime Minister’s energy adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has regretted that none of the Awami League central leaders went to Central Shaheed Minar to pay last respect to BNP standing committee member and former prime minister Barrister Moudud Ahmad.
“It is really very unfortunate that none of the Awami League central leaders has gone to the Shaheed Minar to pay respect to Moudud Ahmad,” he said.

Moudud’s body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar from the Evercare Hospital’s mortuary around 9:15am on Friday for paying last respect by people from all strata of society.
Leaders and activists of different political parties, including BNP, Ganaforum, Nagorik Oikya, JSD (Rab), Jagpa, Jatiya Party (Zafar), and Bangladesh NAP together with common people paid their last respect placing wreaths, stood in silence for some time prayed for Moudud’s departed soul.
After paying respect, BNP standing committee member Dr Khondker Mosharraf Hossain said Moudud Ahmad was a dedicated leader throughout his entire life. He fought for democracy. He struggled for realising the rights of common people.
He said, “We’ve lost a veteran and colourful politician by losing Moudud Ahmed. The nation has lost an elderly politician. Bangladesh Nationalist Party has lost a guardian.”
At that time, Moudud’s brother-in-law Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury who was present at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay respect to the veteran politician. When his attention was drawn to the absence of Awami League central leaders in paying last respect to Moudud Ahmad, Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said, “It is very unfortunate. There may be differences of opinion in politics. But, it is not supposed to be happened.”
Ganashasthya Kendra founder and trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said, “If we want to write the true history of our Liberation War or the Provisional Government of 1971, we will not be able to drop Moudud Ahmad’s name. We have lost a hero.”
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice-Chairman Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Jagpa president Lutfar Rahman, Jatiya Party (Zafar) chairman Mostofa Jamal Haider paid their last respect placing wreaths on Moudud Ahmad’s coffin.
