The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman passed the order as Tufan Sarker sought fresh bail by concealing the information of a previous HC rule concerning his bail.
Advocate Shah Alam Sarkar was the lawyer for Tufan Sarkar and Barrister Mohammad Sajjad Hossain was in favour of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On December 31, 2018, the ACC filed a case against Tufan sarker with Bogra Sadar Police Station. In its case, the ACC brought allegation of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 1,59,58,885 against him. Though Tufan Sarker showed the money as his acquired wealth in his income tax return, he had no legal sources of income in reality. Later, he applied for bail in the case to the High Court.
On September 9, 2020, the same bench of the High Court issued a rule asking why the bail plea of Tufan Sarkar would not be granted in the same case. While the rule was pending, Tufan Sarkar applied for another bail in the same court on March 9 last.
When the application was presented for hearing, the ACC lawyer informed the court about the previous order. The court then summoned the documents of that order. The documents were presented in court on Thursday.
After the hearing, the court rejected the rule issued on the bail of Tufan Sarkar.
Tufan Sarkar has been in jail since July 29, 2017 in a case filed against him for shaving a mother’s head after torturing her and her daughter in Bogra. The High Court also rejected his bail plea in that case.
