Govt to buy rice from farmers at prices not less than Tk 1,000
Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque has said the government is pledge-bound to ensure fair prices of rice for farmers.

“The government is going to fix rice procurement prices in such a way so that farmers can make profits deducting their expenses. The price of paddy wouldn’t be less than Tk 1,000 per maund. The government will procure 14 lakh tonnes of paddy and rice,” he said.The Agriculture Minister was talking to newsmen after witnessing paddy harvesting at village Jatrapasha under Baniachong upazila in Habiganj district early Friday afternoon.
Earlier, the Agriculture Minister inaugurated the Boro paddy harvesting programme. He also witnessed harvesting of paddy in haor through the harvesting machine.
The harvesting programme was attended by Habiganj district Awami League president Advocate Md Abu Zahir, Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Md Mesbahul Islam, Director General of the Department of Agriculture Extension Md Asadullah, Habiganj deputy commissioner Ishrat Jahan, Police Super Mohammad Ullah, Habiganj Pourasava mayor Ataur Rahman Selim, Habiganj Rice Research Institute’s director Dr Mohammad Mozammel Huque, Baniachong Upazila chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury and District Awami League general secretary Advocate Alamgir Chowdhury, among others.
Later, the minister visited the regional office of Bangladesh Rce Research Institute at Habiganj and witnessed the production of different varities of rice developed by the scientists there.
It may be mentioned that Boro paddy has been cultivated on 1 lakh 22 thousand 130 hectres of land in Habiganj district in the current year.
