RU suspends joining of 137 newly recruited employees
PBC News: The authority of Rajshahi University (RU) has suspended the joining of 137 newly recruited employees, who were recruited by the former vice-chancellor M Abdus Sobhan on ad-hoc basis on May 5. The Ministry of Education has also called the recruitment illegal.
A notification signed by the university registrar Professor Abdus Salam confirmed the information on Saturday afternoon. He said they suspended the joining process until the probe committee come up with their findings.
The outgoing vice-chancellor M Abdus Sobhan’s term expired last Thursday and he had recruited 137 employees on ad-hoc basis. The Ministry of Education has formed a four-member probe committee headed by Prof. Muhammad Alamgir, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The members of the probe committee went to RU around 11:15 am on Saturday and they met with former VC M Abdus Sobhan.
VC Abdus Sobhan said, “The recruitment process was not against the law. I gave them jobs on humanitarian reasons. Most of the recruits are from Chhatra League and AL family.”
Prof. Muhammad Alamgir said, “The Ministry of Education has called this appointment illegal. So we have taken interviews of those who are involved in this recruitment. Hopefully, we will be able to submit a full report within the stipulated time.”
