Ashulia bus gangrape: One pleads guilty, 5 remanded
PBC News: Five, out of six persons, arrested for alleged gang rape of a woman on a running bus at Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Friday night, were placed on a three-day remand for interrogation, while another accused submitted confessional statement.
The six accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday. Then the investigation officer of the case pleaded to the court to place each of the accused on a five-day remand. After the hearing, Dhaka’s senior judicial magistrate Shahjadi Tahmina placed the accused on a three-day remand.
On the other hand, as accused Sumon agreed to submit confessional statement, the IO pleaded to the court to record his statement. Then the court recorded his statement.
Ashulia Police Station inspector (investigation) Ziaul Islam said the young woman boarded a bus of New Bangla Paribahan to return to her house in Narayanganj at about 6:30pm on Friday after visiting her sister’s house in Manikganj. The bus driver turned the vehicle and headed to C&B Bypass Road after dropping other passengers on the way.
Then all the six accused allegedly gang raped the woman inside the minibus shutting down all the windows and door of the vehicle, said inspector (Investigation) Ziaul Islam.

Later, the rapists dropped her at Nabinagar bus stand in Ashulia at about 8pm.
Ziaul Islam said on suspicion, a police patrol team started chasing the bus at Ashulia Bridge on C&B Bypass Road. They stopped the bus after it crossed Jahangirnagar University at about 11:00pm and arrested the six rapists. Besides, the minibus was also seized.
The arrested were identified as Arian, 18, son of Nazrul Islam, of village Gulbagh Indrapur under Turag Police Station, Saju, 20, sone of late Atiar of Taraguna area under Doulatpur police station in Kushtia, Sumon, 24, son of Sultan Mia, of Khatiamari under Dhunat police station in Bogura, Monwar, 24, son of Johur Uddin of Dhamghar area under Bandar police station in Narayanganj district, Sohag, 25, son of Tofazzal Hossain of Khatiamari under Dhunat police station in Bogura district and Saiful Islam, 40, some of Shamsul Islam of village Zianagar under Dhupchachia police station in Bogura district.
All the arrested used to drive minibuses on Abdullahpur-Baipail-Nabinagar route and lived at Kamarpara floating area under Turag police station.
On Saturday morning, the victim filed a rape case against the six accused with Ashulia police station. Then the victim was sent to ‘One Stop Crisis Centre’ of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical test.
The woman lives in Narayanganj with her husband and son. She is a worker at a garment factory there. Her husband hails from Lalmonirhat district.
