Railway decides to operate more 36 trains from Thursday
These are 12 pairs of inter-city trains, and 24 pairs of mail and commuter trains.
It was stated in a press release signed by Shariful Alam, senior information officer of the Ministry of Railways, on Tuesday (August 17).
Operations of the trains were suspended like other mass transports owing to the imposition of strict restrictions from July 1 last in the wake of rise in Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the lockdown was relaxed from July 15 to July 22 to ensure the return of home-bound passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. As the government imposed strict lockdown again on July 23, train operations were also suspended with other mass transports. Following the lifting of lockdown on August 10, plying of trains resumed again on August 11 with 36 pairs of inter-city trains.
In this regard, Shariful Alam also told journalists that plying of more 12 inter-city and 24 commuter trains was approved on Tuesday to resume the full operation of passenger trains from August 19.
However, operations of several trains including Jalalabad Express on Chattogram-Sylhet route, Isha Kha Express on Dhaka Mymensingh route were proposed to resume later on due to lack of coaches and repair of engines.
He said all will have to follow the health guidelines strictly. If any negligence is found, legal action will be taken against the authorities concerned.
