Fakhrul demands release of arrested leaders, activists
PBC News: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday demanded the release of the arrested leaders and activists of the party.
“Even today, when I came here, I heard that about 25 leaders and activists have been arrested,” said Fakhrul after placing wrath at the grave of the party’s founding president Ziaur Rahman on Thursday.
“I demand the release of the leaders and activists arrested last day and today. At the same time, I am demanding the withdrawal of the false case.”
The BNP secretary general further said Ziaur Rahman established Swecchasebak Dal with a special purpose. But, even after so many years, they are not able to work in a free environment.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We liberated the country in 1971 with high hopes. Journalists will be able to write without fear, a democratic country will be established, democratic institutions will be formed in the country with democratic thinking, people will be able to speak without fear. But, that situation is no more.”
Bangladesh is now in the throes of a fascist government and completely under authoritarian rule, he added.
