Helena Jahangir denied bail in Wildlife Conservation case
PBC News: A court in Dhaka on Thursday rejected the bail prayer of expelled Awami League leader Helena Jahangir in a case filed under Wildlife Conservation Act.
Helena’s lawyer Shafiqul Islam filed the bail petition with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakr Siddique on Thursday. On the other hand the state side opposed the bail.
After hearing from both side, the judge rejected the bail petition.
Earlier on Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim rejected his bail plea in a fraud case filed with Mirpur Police Station.
On August 3, two separate courts in Dhaka placed the businessperson turned politician on a 14-day remand in four cases filed under Narcotics Control Act, Special Powers Act, Wildlife Conservation Act and Telecommunications Act.
At night on July 29, RAB said that they seized ‘huge quantity’ of foreign liquor, equipment for casino gambling, walkie-talkie and knives from Helena Jahangir’s Gulshan flat. The elite force also raided Helena’s Joyjatra Foundation office and Joyjatra Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) office at Mirpur on the same night.
Later, a press release was issued relieving Helena Jahangir from her member post in the Awami League women affairs sub-committee
