Padma Bridge gets final slab
PBC News: With the installation of the last roadway slab, the 6.15 kilometre long road of the Padma Bridge is now visible.
A total of 2,917 roadway slabs have been installed as vehicles will be able to ply after it is paved with asphalt.
The last slab was placed between Pier No. 12 and 13 on Monday morning, said deputy assistant engineer of Padma Bridge project Humayun Kabir.
The installment of railway slab in the two-storey bridge was completed on June 20 this year.
The project took off in December 2014 before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated work on the main bridge a year later.
On December 10, 2020, the bridge came into full view with the installation of 41 spans in 42 piers stretching 150 metres.
Regular transports will travel on the upper section of the the bridge, while trains will take the lower route.
All forms of vehicles are expected to be able to travel the whole length of the bridge by June 2022.
