No alternative to take to streets: Fakhrul
PBC News: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said there is no alternative but to take to the streets in an alliance to topple the government.
“A monstrous force in the country is destroying everything. Today, they have created a truly fascist state, the main goal of which is to establish a one-party system of government,” said Fakhrul while addressing at a discussion meeting held at t National Press Club on Sunday.
The meeting was organized by the national committee of ‘Shoto Nagarik’ in memory of late Professor Khondokar Mustahidur Rahman, former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University. Poet Abdul Hai Sikder, Member Secretary of the committee, gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the programme.
Fakhrul said, “If we want to give a truly independent and sovereign Bangladesh to our future descendants, then we all have to be united. We have no choice but to take to the streets now.”
“It is not just the political party BNP or only the opposition parties that have to come down, everyone has to come down. Everyone who is here today, there are university professors, journalists, everyone is being affected. No one is left out. So, everyone has to come down.”
Highlighting the colorful career of Mustahidur Rahman, the BNP secretary general said, “Losing Mustahidur Rahman has created a vacuum not only for the family, but also for those of us who are friends, colleagues and well-wishers. This vacuum would not be filled easily.”
