7 HC judges felt embarrassed in Bangabandhu murder case hearing

PBC News: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was very respectful to the rule of law throughout his life. He served jail for as long as 13 years. He brought the independence of the country. Some, some disgraced persons of the country killed him along with his family members brutally. But, what was more surprising that seven High Court judges expressed their inability to hear the Bangabandhu murder case when death references were sought from them in the case.

The Law Minister made the remarks while speaking a condolence meeting organised by Judicial Administration Training Institute on Tuesday in observance of the 46th anniversary of death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Anisul Huq said had Ziaur Rahman been a real freedom fighter, he would have annuled the Indemnity Ordinance instead of making it into a law and tried the killers of Bangabandhu.

“But, Ziaur Rahman had rewarded the killers by providing jobs at foreign missions. He appointed Shah Azizur Rahman as the prime minister of the country though he had opposed the Bangladesh’s independence. And, Ershad gave consent to the killers to form Freedom Party. Khaleda Zia had made the killer of Bangabandhu as the Leader of Opposition in parliament by holding a general election without voters on February 15, 1996. It was done with a view to putting slaps on the faces of people,” he said.

With Judicial Administration Training Institute’s director general Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana in the chair, the meeting was also addressed by Law and Justice Secretary Md Golam Sarwar, Supreme Court’s Registrar General Ali Akbar, Inspector General of the Directorate of Registration Shahidul Alam Jhinuk, Joint Secretary of the Law and Justice Division Bikash Kumar Saha and Joint Secretary Umme Kulsum and Judicial Administration Training Institute’s director Md Golam Kibria.
