Evaly CEO Russel, chairman Nasrin arrested
PBC News: Evaly’s CEO Mohammad Russel and chairman Shamima Nasrin have been arrested on charge of fraudulent practices after a customer filed a case against them.
They were arrested from their Mohammadpur residence in the capital on Thursday afternoon by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Earlier at about 3:30pm, the RAB-2 personnel besieged the Mohammadpur residence of Russel and Shamima.
The customer, Arif Baker, who allegedly gave over Tk 3 lakh to the Evaly for products, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on Wednesday night against them. Arif Baker is an inhabitant of village Purbogram under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district.
In the case, Evaly MD Mohammad Russel was made the accused number one, while the chairman Shamima Nasrin the accused number two.
Besides, several other persons were made accused in the case showing them as “unknown.”
The case statement reads that Arif and his friends ordered the e-commerce platform for some products. Later, Arif paid Tk 3,10,597 to the Evaly through online between May 29 and June 16 on a promise that the Evaly will return full amount if it failed to deliver the products within 7 to 45 working days after the order.
Evaly, the controversial e-commerce platform, embezzled money of some 700-800 customers like Arif, the case statement also said.
