BCL leader dies in Cox’s Bazar drinking ‘toxic alcohol’
Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police said Rafsan Irfan died on his way to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital from Bay Wonder Hotel at Kolatali Saikat Point on Friday (Sept 17) morning.
Rafsan Irfan had long been associated with BCL politics. He hailed from Batali Road at Enayet Bazar under Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram.
He was an aspirant for Kotwali Thana BCL general secretary post.
Quoting Bay Wonder Hostel authorities, Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police’s additional police super Mohiuddin said Rafsan Irfan got into Bay Wonder Hotel along with his friend at night on September 15. They felt severe chest pain and vomitted after 9:00pm on September 16. They felt somewhat comfortable when they were given some lemon juice and tamarind. Then they went to sleep.
On Friday morning, they were rushed to a private hospital in Cox’s Bazar after they started feeling severe chest pain again. As their physical condition didn’t show any sign of improvement, they were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital from there. However, Rafsan Irfan succumbed on his way to the hospital.
Sources said Rafsan Irfan had a relation with the hotel’s chief accountant Kaiser Ahmed. Rafsan mainly got into the hotel on September 15 at the reference of Kaiser. Kaiser also looked after Rafsan when he felt sick at 9:00pm on September 16.
Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar’s additional police super Mohiuddin said they thought that Rafsan died of being sick after ‘drinking excessive amount of liquor.’
However, everything would be known after postmortem of Rafsan’s body, he further said.
