999 call: 15 stranded fishermen rescued from Bay
PBC News: Bangladesh Coast Guard have rescued 15 fishermen from a trawler that got stuck in the Bay of Bengal at Hatia upazila in Noakhali district for the last three days.
After receiving a phone call through national emergency helpline 999, a coast guard team took an initiative to search for the trawler.
A press release, sent by 999 media cell, said the fishing trawler ventured into deep waters with 15 fishermen on board on September 20.
On September 23, the engine of the trawler went out of order, forcing the fishermen to remain stranded in the sea for the last three days.
None of them could inform the matter as their mobile phone sets had been out of network.
On Sunday afternoon, they managed to make a call to the emergency helpline service and sought help.
However, the national emergency helpline 999 contacted the coast guard’s control room and sought an intervention in this regard.
Being informed, a team from the coast guard at Bhasan Char started searching for the trawler.
Later, they traced the boat and rescued the stranded fishermen, 15 to 20 kilometers away from Bhasan Char, the press release added.
