Another consignment of metro rail coaches reaches Mongla port
MV SPM Bangkok, a general cargo ship, anchored at Jetty No. 9 of Mongla Port with the engines, coaches and 32 packs of metro rail equipment around 10:30am.
The ship left for Mongla port from Kobe Port in Japan on September 14, said Mongla Port Authority’s Harbour Master Commander Sheikh Fakhar Uddin.
However, the clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent of the ship said the compartments and engines would be unloaded after customs formalities.
After unloading the compartments and engines, those will be transported to the Metro Rail Depot at Diabari area in Dhaka’s Uttara by barges from Mongla Port.
Sheikh Fakhar Uddin said, 10 more compartments and two engines were brought to the country on July 20, six compartments and relevant spare parts on March 31 while six more compartments and spare parts on May 5.
According to the Metro Rail project, the length of the metro rail route up to Motijheel was 20.1 km. But now it has been extended to Kamalapur Railway Station by 1.16 km.
As a result, the number of stations has also increased to 16.
There will be a total of 16 stations on the 21 km route of the Mass Rapid Transit-MRT Line 6.
The stations are Uttara North, Uttara Center, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur 11, Mirpur 10, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbag, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel.
