Bomb attack at Ctg court: Boma Mizan gets death, another life term
PBC News: A Chattogram court on Sunday sentenced Jahidul Islam Sumon alias Boma Mizan, a member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), to death in a case filed for bomb attack on the Chittagong Court Building premises.
Another accused JMB Chittagong divisional commander Jabed Iqbal has been given life term imprisonment in the case. The court fined him Tk 2 lakh and in default, he will have to suffer two years more in prison.
Chattogram Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Judge Abdul Hamid pronounced the verdict in presence of Jabed, who is now in Chattogram jail. But Boma Mizan is absconding.
The court also relieved JMB chief Abdur Rahman, Bangla Bhai and Ataur Rahman Sani from the charges as they were executed in another case.
Police constable Rajib Barua and one Shahabuddin from Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong were killed and 16 others, mostly police, were injured in the attack on November 29, 2005.
Two cases — one for murder and another for possession of explosives — have been filed with Kotwali Police Station.
Hla Ching Pru, the then inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, submitted the charge sheet on May 18, 2006, accusing five JMB members.
