Country is under one-party state system: Fakhrul
PBC News: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the country is running on the model of one-party state system.
“There is no democracy, no elections and no law and order. A state cannot function like this,” said Fakhrul while addressing at a discussion meeting held at National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday.
Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dalon arranged the programme the occasion of its 42nd founding anniversary.
The BNP secretary general said, “In 1971, we wanted an independent society and not a dependent society. But the hopes and aspirations of the people of this country have not been reflected yet. This government has changed the constitution at different times to stay in power.”
Mentioning that Awami League has become the biggest enemy of the people, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Farmers are not getting fair prices, workers are not getting fair wages.”
Referring to some recent incidents, Fakhrul said, “Various organizations are taking people’s money. There is no management. No one can say anything about being killed or disappeared. Killing without trial is going on. A state system cannot work like this.”
He further said, “Khaleda Zia has been detained with false charges. Tarique Rahman has also been falsely accused in the same way.”
Principal Maulana Shah Md Nesarul Haque presided over the meeting while BNP chairperson adviser Amanullah Aman, Dhaka City South unit BNP convener Abdus Salam, standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, spoke in the programme.
