20 injured in Jashore pre-polls violence
PBC News: At least 20 people were injured in separate clashes during campaigning for upcoming union parishad (UP) election at Jhikargachha upazila in Jashore district on Thursday.
The injured were admitted to Jashore General Hospital.
Jahurul Haque, independent candidate for Shimulia UP chairman post, alleged that he and his followers were attacked by supporters of rival candidate Motiar Rahman during campaigning in Missionpara area in the afternoon.
Six persons including Jahurul himself were injured in the attack, he added.
Meanwhile, a crude bomb was hurled during a campaign rally of Panisara UP’s independent chairman candidate Pikul Hasan in front of rival candidate Nowsher Ali’s election office in the evening.
Sequel to the incident, supporters of the both candidates locked into clashes, leaving 14 people from both sides injured.
Regarding the incidents, Jhikargachha Police Station inspector Misbah Uddin said police went to the spots and brought the situation under control.
No one filed a complaint with the police station yet, he added.
