James-Miles sue Banglalink over copyright violation; officials summoned
PBC News: Popular musician-singer James and rock band Miles filed two separate cases against the telecommunication service provider Banglalink on charges of violating copyright.
They filed the lawsuits with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes on Wednesday and, later, the court took the allegation into cognisance.
Mahfuz Anam James and Miles’s lead singer Shafin Ahmed were present in the court.
The court, however, issued a summon against some top officials of Banglalink for appearing before it within November 30.
The officials are: Banglalink Digital Communications’ CEO Erik Anas, chief compliance officer M Nurul Alam, chief digital officer Sanjay Vaghasia, chief corporate regulatory officer Taimur Rahman and head of VAS Anik Dhar.
According to the complaints, Banglalink is using some songs of the two bands for various commercial purposes and also as caller and welcome tunes without their taking permission, amounting to violation of copyright law.
