Entire womenfolk humiliated by Raintree rape case verdict: Fakhrul
PBC News: The entire womenfolk was humiliated in the Raintree Hotel rape case judgement, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion, styled “Valiant freedom-fighter Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s contributions to protect the country’s indepence and establish democracy” on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day” organised by Jatiya Ganatantrit Party–JAGPA in observance of the National Revolution and Solidarity day.
Referring to the Raintree rape case verdict, he said a case was disposed of on Thursday. A case was filed after two university students were raped at Raintree Hotel. What we saw in the newspapers that the accused submitted statements to court confessing their involvement in rape. But, what was the verdict? All were acquitted!”
Mirza Fakhrul asked, “Why? What were the reasons? It’s because that the accused who were arrested are so powerful in society, they have so much money…jewelries, MP, all these things. So, what were the results? These accused were acquitted humiliating the entire womenfolk. I strongly condemn it. I have become so frustrated and I felt so anguished. We can’t accept such verdicts.”
With JAGPA president Khondker Lutfar Rahman in the chair, the discussion was also moderated by general secretary SM Shahadat and addressed by Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Mostofa Jamal Haider, BNP’s Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir Khokon, NPP’s Fariduzzaman Farhad, Labour Party’s Mostafizur Rahman Iran, LDP’s Shahadat Hossain Selim, Jatiya Dal’s Syed Ehsanul Huda and Islamic Party’s Abul Kashem.
