I’ll plead for review from Sheikh Hasina: Mayor Jahangir
PBC News: bGazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor Mohammad Jahangir Alam, who was expelled from Awami League for life on Friday, has pleaded to the party President Sheikh Hasina for a review of his case.
“I plead to our party president Sheikh Hasina for a review on the decision. I don’t want any post, I just want to live as a supporter of Awami League,” he said while addressing a press conference at his residence in Gazipur city on Saturday.
Jahangir Alam said, “I want to tell her (Sheikh Hasina) that she has been provided with false and fabricated information. I may have made some mistakes, which I want to make clear to her.”
He also burst into tears at the press conference while saying those.
On Friday, the Awami League expelled its Gazipur city unit general secretary Jahangir Alam for life for his controversial remarks about Bangabandhu and the number of freedom-fighters killed during the liberation war.
The 42-year-old Jahangir Alam, who was also served a show-cause notice earlier by the party, was expelled for his remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the number of freedom fighters killed during the War of Liberation in 1971, at a programme back in September last.
Later, the video of his remarks went viral on Facebook on September 22. The video was four minutes in length where Jahangir was heard saying, “Our Bangabandhu had arranged the killing of 30 lakh (freedom fighters). Some 45,000 died in each of 64 districts. He had realised his own interest through it.”
There were more sensitive points in his remarks which were later termed ‘objectionable’ by a faction of Gazipur City Awami League.
