13 stranded fishermen rescued from Bay
A press release, sent by 999 media cell, said the fishing trawler ventured into deep waters with 13 fishermen on board on November 28.
On December 1, the engine of the trawler went out of order, forcing the fishermen to remain stranded in the sea for the last five days.
None of them could inform the matter as their mobile phone sets had been out of network.
On Sunday afternoon, they managed to make a call to the emergency helpline service and sought help.
However, the national emergency helpline 999 contacted the coast guard’s control room and sought an intervention in this regard.
Being informed, a team from the coast guard at Bhasan Char started searching for the trawler.
Later, they traced the boat and rescued the stranded fishermen, 15 to 20 kilometers away from Nijhum Dwip, the press release added.
