Two AL factions clash in Kishoreganj over placing wreath, bus torched
CRICDOT DESK : At least nine persons were injured during a factional clash between two groups of Awami League in Kishoreganj’s Pakundia upazila on Thursday.
The clash ensued around 9:30am between the supporters of Nur Mohammad, lawmaker from KIshoreganj-2 seat, and Adv Sohrab Hossain, a former lawmaker, over placing wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Nur Mohammad’s followers, equipped with sticks, attacked on Sohrab Hossain while he went to upazila parishad with his party men to place wreath at the portrait of the Bangabandhu, marking the 51st Victory Day
Suddenly, the entire area turned into a battlefield as both the groups chasing each other.
Police at one stage, fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
Nine people were injured in the incident, said Pakundia Police Station OC Md Sarwar Jahan.
Later, some miscreants torched a bus on the Pakundia-Mirzapur road at 12 noon. But none was injured.
A large number of police have been deployed as the tense situation is prevailing in the area.
