Gang rape making husband, child hostages, accused No. 3 held
PBC News: Tourist police have arrested the No. 3 accused in connection with the case filed agains gang rape of a housewife making her husband and child hostages in Cox’s Bazar.
Israfil Huda Joy was arrested from Chakaria bus terminal early Tuesday morning by conducting drives.
Israfil Huda is the son of Shafiuddin of Cox’s Bazar city. He was one of the masterminds of the gang rape.
Mohammad Muslim, Additional DIG of Tourist Police, said this at a press conference on early Tuesday afternoon.
He said three people including the main accused Ashique whose names mentioned in the case and three more persons on the complain of the victim woman have been arrested so far.
He further said arrested Zia Guest Inn manager Reaz Uddin Choton is now on a four-day remand, while three other accused are on a two-day remand.
Those who are on a two-day remand are Rezaul Karim Shahabuddin, 25, of South Bahar Char area in Cox’s Bazar city; Mamunur Rashid, 28, of Ulubunia in Dulhazara of Chakaria upazila; and Mehedi Hasan , 21, of West Baharchhara in Cox’s Bazar city.
Meanwhile, six persons have been arrested so far in connection with the case. Prime accused Ashiqul Islam Ashique was arrested by RAB from Madaripur on Sunday.
Earlier on the day of incident, Zia Guest Inn’s manager Reazuddin Choton, another accused in the case, was arrested by RAB.
The victim alleged that she was raped being confined to a thatched house adjacent to Kabita Chattar in the city on December 22 last. Later, she was taken to a residential hotel, called ‘Zia Guest Inn’ at hotel-motel zone. She was also raped there for the second time.
Later on December 23, the husband of the victimised woman filed a case mentioning the names of four persons and citing the names of two to three unidentified people.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at RAB’s Media Centre at Kawran Bazar in the capital, RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khondker Al Moyeen said the tourist of the rape victim went to Cox’s Bazar along with her husband and child to mobilise fund from local and foreign tourists for the treatment of her eight-month old baby who suffers from heart disease.
