One held with 5kg gold bars at Dhaka airport
PBC News: An inbound passenger has been arrested with gold bars weighing 5.180kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Ataur Rahman, an inhabitant of Habiganj district, was arrested with the gold bars worth over Tk 3.40 crore after his arrival at the airport from Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday night.
Dhaka Customs House deputy commissioner (Preventive) Md Sanwarul Kabir confirmed it on Wednesday morning.
Sanwarul Kabir said existence of gold was detected in two large hammers kept inside a baggage of Ataur Rahman. Later, in presence of the representatives of different agencies working at the airport, the hammers were cut and found 44 gold bars.
Besides, gold jewellries were also recovered from the trousers of the passengers.
The market price of the seized gold bars and jewellries, weighing 5.180kg, is Tk 3.40 crore, said the customs official.
A case was filed against arrested Ataur Rahman under the Customs Act and Criminal Act.
