Cocktail explosion: 10 BNP men jailed for five years
PBC News: A court in Dhaka has sentenced 10 leaders and activists of BNP to jail for five years in a case filed over cocktail explosion during a hartal in the city’s Bhashantek Police Station area in 2013.
The jailed persons are: Sumon Chandra, Jasim, Aminul, Sohel, Kawsar, Jewel, Abdur Rahman, Shaheed, Mohsin and Liton.
Dhaka Special Tribunal-9 Judge Amirul Islam handed down the verdict on Monday.
They were also fined Tk 5,000 each. In default, they will have to suffer three months more in jail.
The court, however, acquitted 14 others as the prosecution could not prove the charges brought against them in the case.
State prosecutors Karima Akter and Obaidul Haque Chowdhury confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the accused exploded cocktails at Bhashantek intersection on November 26, 2013, during hartal-blockade called by BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Later, Bhashantek Police Station sub-inspector Zahidul Islam lodged a case under the Explosive Substances Act.
