5 policemen stabbed by mugger, one undergoes operation

PBC News:  Five policemen have been injured being stabbed indiscriminately by a mugger at the entrance of Bangshal Police Station in  Dhaka, officials said on Thursday.

Among them, one critically injured policeman underwent operation after he was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). His operation was successful.

The incident happened at about 11:30pm in front of the Bangshal Police Station entrance. All the five injured policemen work at Bangshal Police Station. Though four of them are now taking rest after receiving primary treatment, the condition of one of them was very critical. He is now being given treatment at the DMCH.

The injured have been identified as sub-inspector (SI) Sumon Chandra, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Tajul Islam, constables Sajib, Rafiqul and Nazrul Islam. Of the, constable Nazrul Islam has been undergoing treatment after receiving serious stab injuries in his abdomen.

It was confirmed by Bangshal Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mir Rezaul Karim.

He said two muggers — Emon, 22, and Jewel, 23 — were brought at the police station after they were detained at the city’s Fulbaria area on Wednesday night. At the entrance of the police station, Emon suddenly attacked five policemen with a knife and stabbed indiscriminately,” said  Mir Rezaul Karim.

They were all rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where Nazrul is currently battling for his life, the officer said.

Since Nazrul Islam came under attack first, he received major injuries deep inside his abdomen. He is being given treatment at the DMCH. The others were injured while they came forward to protect Nazrul and resist the muggers.

Mir Rezaul Karim also Nazrul underwent a successful operation at the DMCH on Thursday morning. The other policemen who were injured are now under treatment at the hospital.
