Masum killed Tipu in ‘assurance of acquittal’ from cases
PBC News: Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested Masum Mohammad alias Akash, who shot dead Awami League leader Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Jamal Preeti at North Shahjahanpur in Dhaka on March 25.
Five days ago, Masun was assigned to kill someone. But three days ago, he came to know that his target name was Tipu, said DB chief AKM Hafiz Akhter at a press briefing at DMP media centre on Sunday.
Masum was arrested from Bogura. Soon after the killings, Masum went to Joypurhat in a bid to cross over to India. But he failed and came to Bogura. He is an accused in a number of cases. He killed Tipu as he got an ‘assurance of acquittal’ from the cases, Hafiz Akhter said.
On March 22, Masum tried to kill Tipu by firing him when Tipu went out of a restaurant for home. But he failed to kill Tipu that day due to gathering on the street.
“We will arrest Masum’s accomplishes soon. And are trying to recover the motorcycle and the arms used in the murder,” the DB chief said.
In primary interrogation, Masum admitted that he shot Tipu and the college girl to death.
Former Motijheel Thana Awami League general secretary Zahidul Islam Tipu, 54, and college student Samia Afrin Preeti, 18, were killed in indiscriminate firing of assailants in front of Manama high-rise building at North Shajahanpur in Dhaka at night of March 24.
A case was filed on Friday in connection with the murder of Zahidul Islam Tipu.
Police said at least 12 bullets pierced the body of Tipu.
