12-km long tailback at Daulatdia ghat
PBC News: Excessive pressure of vehicles at Daulatdia ferry ghat in Rajbari created a 12-kilometre long tailback on Saturday as people started returning to Dhaka after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.
Some travellers were seen heading towards the ghat with children and elderly persons hiring rickshaws or auto-rickshaws.
A passenger named Sanwar Hossain, who works at a private organisation, said he was stuck on the highway from 12 midnight on Friday. Now, he hired a rickshaw at Tk 200 to reach the ghat as his office remains open today (Saturday).
According to BIWTC authorities, more than 6,000 motorcycles crossed the ferry on Friday which is double in number today. A total of 21 ferries are plying the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway.
The drivers claimed that they have to wait 8-10 hours to board the ferry.
A 12-kilometer-long line of vehicles was seen on the Dhaka-Khulna highway, beginning at Zero Point of the Daulatdia ghat and around 5,000 vehicles were waiting to cross the river.
