Mobile court seizes 2,36,640 litres of edible oil in Khulna
PBC News: A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 has seized 2,36,640 litres of soybean and palm oil after conducting drives at three trading houses in Bara Bazar of Khulna city.
The drive was carried out by a mobile court of RAB-6, Khulna in cooperation with the district administration concerned.
Khulna district administration’s executive magistrate Debashish Basak conducted the drive.
He said the seized oils included 73,032 litres of soyabean oil and 1,63,608 litres of palm oil. Three trading houses were fined Tk 1.60 lakh for storing edible oil illegally.
RAB said of the seized edible oil, 31,600 litres of soyabean and 63,300 litres of palm oils were found at Saha Traders. The proprietor of the Messrs Saha Traders Dilip Kumar Saha was fined Tk 90,000.
Messrs Sonali Enterprises propritor Pradeep Saha was fined Tk 30,000 on charge of storing 26,780 litres of soyabean and 31,800 litres of palm oils.
Earlier, Messrs Ranjit Biswas and Sons was fined Tk 40,000 on charge of storing 9,580 litres of soyabean and 59,560 litres of palm oils.
Meanwhile, godown owners have claimed that the edible oils were stored for business, not for raising prices in the market.
RAB-6’s police super Al Asad Md Mahfuzul Islam said there is no scope of storing more than 30 metric tonnes of oil as per the existing rules. But, extra oils were found at the godowns. RAB’s such drives would continue for the public interest.
