It’s not right time to hike electricity, gas prices: FBCCI
PBC News: Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Saturday said that the move to increase electricity and gas prices would be suicidal for the government.
Business leaders said “Now is not the time to raise electricity and gas prices. This initiative has been taken to push the government into disarray.”
They made the remarks at a press conference held at FBCCI office at Motijheel in Dhaka.
The business leaders further said that the decision on whether the price of gas and electricity will go up has to come politically but not from bureaucrats.
FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin presented the keynote at the press conference on the proposed hike in electricity and gas prices.
The FBCCI President said, “Quick rental power plant was once needed and now there is no need of it. Quick rental and inefficient power plants should be shut down.”
“Gas-run power plants are in a state of disrepair. The government is planning to increase the price of electricity and gas without paying attention to it. The industrial sector cannot bear the compensation of the wrong plan of the government.”
He said the rise in electricity and gas prices would be a suicidal decision for the government.
Among others, BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon and BGMEA vice president Shahidullah Azim spoke.
