Ideal College teachers, students demand removal of principal

PBC News:  Teachers, students and the employees of Ideal College at the city’s Dhanmondi staged demonstration on Saturday demanding removal of its principal and three other teachers boycotting all academic activities, including classes.

They held protest on the campus over the alleged irregularities of the principal and three teachers.

The protesters also threatened to continue their protest until their demand is not met.

Abdul Jalil, assistant professor of the Mathematics Department at the college, confirmed the matter.

He said, “We have boycotted all academic activities demanding the resignation of Principal Jasim Uddin and three teachers–Tawfiq Aziz Chowdhury of Marketing Department, Tarun Kumar Ganguly of Bangla Department, Md Moniruzzaman of Mathematics Department. Later, the students have also joined this movement. We will continue the movement till our demand is not met.”

The agitating students alleged, “Our principal has been committing various irregularities for a long time. He insults our good teachers in many ways. He is grabbing money from the college fund in various ways. It will not be allowed to continue. That’s why, we have joined the movement for the resignation of the Principal”.

Later, the teachers and the students withdrew the movement as the governing body agreed to hold a meeting with the teachers at 4 pm.

Earlier on Friday (June 3), teachers, officials and employees of the college declared Principal Jasim ‘unwanted’ at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, bringing allegation that he had obtained a fake PhD degree and is involved in financial corruption and irregularities.
