DB gets Musa on six-day remand
PBC News: A court in Dhaka on Friday placed Motijheel Thana Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu murder accused Sumon Sikder Musa on a six-day remand.
Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB), investigating Tipu murder case, produced Musa before the court and pleaded to place him on a 15-day remand “for fair investigation into the Tipu murder.”
Hearing the remand plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chanda placed Musa on a six-day remand.
Musa’s name was surfaced as the ‘mastermind and coordinator’ in the confessional statement of Shooter Masum Mohammad alias Akash who was arrested from Bogura in Tipu-Preety murder case. Later, it was learnt that Musa left the country for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 12 last. Then the DB contacted with the NCB Branch at the Police Headquarters on April 6 to know the whereabout of Musa.
The Police Headquarters started contacting with different Middle Eastern countries through the Interpol from April 8. On May 8, the Interpol learnt that Musa had entered Oman from Dubai. Receiving request from Interpol, the Oman police arrested Musa on June 3. On June 5, a team of Bangladesh Police went Oman and brought Musa back to Bangladesh on Thursday (June 9).
At about 10:15pm on March 24 last, Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu was shot dead in front of Bata showroom near Islami Bank at Amtola in Shahjahanpur of the capital. At that time, college student Samia Afran Preety on board a rickshaw was also killed when a stray bullet pierched through her chest.
On the following day of the sensational double murders, slain Tipu’s wife and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) reserved councillor Farhana Islam Dolly filed a murder case with Motijheel Police Station being the plaintiff. In her case, she made accused a number of unidentified individuals.
