Protest in Dhaka over BJP leaders’ derogatory remarks against Prophet
PBC News: Hundreds of people on Friday took streets in Dhaka against two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders’ derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
They staged the demonstration seeking punishment of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and head of Delhi BJP’s media unit Naveen Kumar Jindal. Besides, they also asked the government to condemn the BJP leaders’ derogatory remarks in the parliament.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh and Islami Oikya Jote brought out processions after Jum’a prayers from city’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area.
Leaders and activists of Islami Andolan organized a rally at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque. Speakers of the rally said they will march toward Indian embassy in Dhaka on June 16 if the two BJP leaders’ are not brought to justice.
Later, the organization brought a procession in the city, led by Naeb-e-Ameer Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim, which paraded important streets.
BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and another party leader Naveen Kumar Jindal made disrespectful remarks about the Prophet (PBUH) and after worldwide condemnation, India’s ruling party had to distance itself from their statements, announcing disciplinary action against the duo.
