Ferry services on Shimulia-Jajira route resume after 9 hrs
PBC News: Ferry movement on the Shimulia-Jajira route resumed from 6:30 am on Monday after nine hours of suspension.
BIWTC’s Banglabzar Ghat manager Salauddin Ahmed said the ferry services were kept closed from 11:30 pm on Sunday as masters did not want to ply as water rises in the Padma River which created strong current.
Following the suspension, around 1,000 vehicles were stranded on the two ghuts. Later, as per the advise of BIWTC waterway experts, masters resumed the ferries.
BIWTC sources said a total of eight ferries were moving on the Shimulia-Jajira route. But those were kept closed from Saturday morning to avert possible accidents.
More than 6,00 vehicles were stranded at Sattar Madbor-Mongolmajhi ghat while over 4,00 at Shimulia ghat from Sunday night.
