AL proposes using EVMs in all 300 constituencies
PBC News: Ruling Awami League on Sunday proposed the Election Commission (EC) to use the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all the 300 constituencies in the next generation election.
An AL delegation, led by its general secretary Obaidul Quader, placed the proposal joining the EC’s talks at about 3:00pm at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.
“We want EVMs from our spirit. We, on behalf of our party, want EVMs in 300 constituencies,” he said raising a number of his party’s proposals in the dialogue.
The AL sought ensuring neutral behaviours of field-level officials, preparing voter lists with photographs, and holding votes through EVMs.
Besides, it wanted impartial behaviour of law enforcing agencies, election observers and media.
Apart from Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal, four other Election Commissioners (ECs) and officials concerned were present.
With the talks with AL, the Election Commission concluded its dialogue with registered political parties seeking opinions over the 12th parliamentary elections.
AL advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu, presidium members Matia Chowdhury, Kazi Zafarullah, Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Lt Col (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, Dr Hasan Mahmud, Sahabuddin Chuppu, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Biplob Barua, Dr Selim Mahmud, Education and Human Resources Secretary Begum Shamsunnahar Chapa and Sayeem Khan were the delegation members.
Among 39 registered political parties, 26 political parties took part in the EC’s dialogue until Thursday, but nine didn’t join it and the remaining two political parties sought time for this.
