PM asks to find a way to import fuel oil from Russia
PBC News: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed authorities concerned to find out a way for importing fuel oil from Russia amid fuel crisis in the country, Planning Minister MA Mannan said on Tuesday.
He made the comment while talking to journalists following the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting held in Dhaka.
Quoting the Prime Minister, Planning Minister MA Mannan said, “The prices of various products have increased due to fuel price hike. Low income people are suffering. In the current situation, India and other countries are buying oil from Russia – so we have to see if we can buy. For this, we have to find a way.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in the meeting that oil can be bought by exchanging Russian ruble, he said.
“She (Prime Minister) instructed us to consider about this (buying oil with ruble) if necessary. The Prime Minister said that if India can buy oil from Russia then why cannot we do it?”
“Russia says they will go to currency swap. We may have to negotiate with Russia and find out a policy,” the minister said.
In the briefing, Planning Minister also presented ECNEC’s reviews on fuel import from Russia and various issues.
