Uttara girder accident: PM orders action against those responsible
Other ministers and officials concerned were connected from the NEC conference room.
Following the meeting, State Minister Shamsul Alam briefed reporters after the meeting.
Describing the accident as tragic, the PM wondered how the project director, contractors and other concerned did it without ensuring the safety measures.
A thorough investigation will have to be conducted and action will have to be taken, she added.
Five passengers were killed when a girder of flyover fell from a crane on a private car under-construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project near Arong at Jasimuddin Road crossing at Uttara on Monday afternoon. Besides, two passengers were rushed to a hospital after they were injured in the accident.
Md Afran Mondol Babu, brother of deceased Fahima Akter and Jhorna Akter, filed a case with Uttara (West) Police Station in connection with the incident, said Uttara (West) Police Station OC Mohammad Mohsin.
The plaintiff made allegations against the crane driver, project’s contracting firm China Gezhuba Group Corporation (CGCC) and those responsible for security, while unidentified people made accused.
Following the incident, Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam ordered suspension of the work of BRT.
