44 fishermen found floating on trawlers in Bay of Bengal rescued
PBC News: Forty-four fishermen, floating on two trawlers for five days in the Bay of Bengal after their engines became inoperative, have been rescued by Coast Guard.
They were rescued from the trawlers floating on the sea at about 10:30am on Sunday (August 21). The rescued fishermen hailed from Banshkhali area in Chattogram.
Lt Commander Khandker Munif Tawki, media officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters in Dhaka, said the Coast Guard, West Zone personnel rescued 21 fishermen alive from an inoperative fishing trawler, named “FB River Mate” from Trikona Dweep of the Bay of Bengal near Akram Point.
Besides, 23 fishermen were rescued alive by Coast Guard, South Zone personnel from the deep sea, off 6 nautical miles from Mohipur in the Bay of Bengal.
He further said the fishermen of both the trawlers were floating on the deep sea without any control over the last five days after the crankshaft and pistons of the trawlers were broken being caught in a storm. The rescued fishermen hailed from different areas under Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram district.
