Home Minister, IGP leave Dhaka for New York
PBC News: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed have left Dhaka for New York.
The Home Minister left for New York on Sunday (August 28) night, while the IGP left on Saturday (August 27) night, sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police Headquarters respectively told the Daily Observer Online.
They are scheduled to join a two-day United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2022) scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 1, 2022 at the UN headquarters.
The IGP is part of a six-member delegation, led by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, will take part in the summit.
Apart from the minister and IGP, other members of the delegation are: Home minister’s personal secretary (deputy secretary) Md Asaduzzaman, additional deputy inspector general (additional DIG) Nashiyan Wazed and assistant police inspector general (AIG) Masud Alam.
However, the US government has imposed a number of conditions on IGP Benazir Ahmed for issuance of visa in his favour. The conditions are: IGP will not be able to go anywhere beyond the police summit. His activities will have to be confined within New York City. He will not be able to attend any state, social, formal and informal functions.
He was also informed that his visa would be revoked instantly if he violates any of the conditions.
Besides, the IGP will have to to return the country after the ending of the police summit. However, no condition was imposed on those who are accompanying the IGP.
It is learnt that they will come back to the country by September 3.
