200 BNP leaders, workers sued by police over clash at Mirpur
PBC News: More than 200 BNP leaders and activists have been sued by police in connection with Thursday’s clash at Mirpur in the capital.
Being the plaintiff, Pallabi Police Station’s sub-inspector Saiful Islam filed the case on Friday. Some 75 leaders and workers of BNP and its front organisations, and some 100 to 150 unidentified persons have been made accused in the case.
Police brought the charges of obstructing them in performing their duties, vandalism and injuring them in the case.
Pallabi Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Parvez Islam said seven accused were arrested in connection with the case, while raids were going on to arrest other accused.
It may be mentioned that BNP’s rally at No. 6 Mukul Fouz ground at Mirpur was foiled due to a sudden attack by local Awami League leaders and activists early Thursday afternoon.
Centring the rally, both parties got involved in a series of clash, chase and counter-chase and blast of local made cocktails. Several hundreds of leaders and workers of BNP were injured when Awami League hoodlums launched attacks on unarmed BNP activists, said BNP Dhaka City North member secretary Aminul Huq.
