Kanchpur microbus, auto-rickshaw collision death toll rises to 5
PBC News: Death toll from the collision between a microbus and an autorickshaw on the Kanchpur Bridge slope under Siddhirganj on Dhaka-Chattogram highway has risen to five.
One more person was also injured in the accident.
The accident happened at about 9:30am on the Kanchpur Bridge slope on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Hanif, 25, passenger Mamun and trader Noor Uddin Khandker, while injured Jamal Mia succumbed while underwent treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Kanchpur Highway Police Station OC Nabir Hossain said a Hiace model of microbus rammed the battery-run Madanpur-bound auto-rickshaw on the west side of the Kanchpur Bridge at about 9:30am, leaving Noor Uddin Khandker dead on the spot. Three more succumbed after they were taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
DMCH Police Outpost in-charge Bacchu Mia said five injured persons were brought at about 10:45am at the hospital. After some time, an on-duty doctor declared three of them dead. Another injured person died while underwent treatment.
Four bodies have been kept at the DMCH morgue.
Kanchpur Highway Police Station OC Nabir Hossain said both the microbus and auto-rickshaw were taken to the police station. However, the microbus driver fled away. Efforts are going on to detain him.
The OC said a case would be filed under the Road Accident Act.
