Man to die for killing wife in Dinajpur
PBC News: A court in Dinajpur on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife at Nawabganj upazila in the district in 2020.
Dinajpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Sharifuddin Ahmed handed down the verdict.
The condemned convict is Razoan Saddam, 26, son of Harunur Rashid, a resident of Sonamuri village of the upazila. The court also fined him Tk 10,000.
Taiba Begum, public prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, Rezoan got married to Laila Khatun, daughter of Sabjan Mia of Khatakhtia Krishnapur village of the upazila in 2014. After marriage, Rezoan Saddam used to torture his wife for dowry. On July 23 in 2016, Rezoan beat his wife Laila to death in the house for dowry.
Later, Sabjan Mia, victim’s father filed a case against 11 people with Nawabganj Police Station on July 26 in 2016.
After investigation, police submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the court.
On Monday, the court delivered the verdict after taking depositions of the witnesses.
