Court orders confiscating Tarique and his wife’s properties
PBC NEWS DESK: A Dhaka court has ordered to confiscate moveable and immovable properties of BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Asaduzzaman passed the order against the duo on Thursday.The judge also directed Cantonment Police Station officer-in-charge to submit a progress report on the implementation of the order within January 19.Earlier, on November 1 in 2022, had issued arrest warrants against the duo after accepting the charges brought against them.
Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman who are now staying in London, were declared ‘fugitives’ on June 25 this year in the graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) with the Kafrul Police Station on September 26, 2007.
Tarique Rahman, Dr Zubaida and Dr Zubaida’s mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu were made accused in the case.The anti-graft body submitted the chargesheet in 2008. Dr Zubaida after that filed a petition with the High Court seeking cancellation of the case proceedings.
The High Court in the same year stayed the proceedings of the case, which was, later, upheld by the Appellate DivisionOn April 12, 2017, the High Court canceled the plea of Dr Zubaida. It had also asked her to appear before the trial court concerned within eight weeks.
Dr Zubaida, later, filed a leave to appeal petition against the High Court order.The Appellate Division on April 13, 2022, scrapped Dr Zubaida’s leave to appeal petition upholding the High Court order.
